Haydenfilms 2.0 Film Festival Winner Announced
Kutztown, Pa. (Billboard Publicity Wire/PRWeb) January 17, 2007 -- John Burgess, a 2005 graduate of USC's School of Cinema-Television took home the $10,000 grand prize last week at the Haydenfilms 2.0 Film Festival Awards Ceremony for his film, "The Powder Puff Principle." The winner was announced at a gala event held at New York's Directors Guild Theatre on January 11, 2007, sponsored by Z-CoiL and Miller Lite. The other Season Two finalists in competition for the grand prize were: "Facing East" directed by Dana Palmer of New York City; "Photograph" directed by Sarah Lambert of Melbourne, Australia; and "The Rebel" directed by Josef Wladyka of Washington, D.C. All four festival finalists received software prize packages contributed by Write Brothers, Akimbo, Avid and Adobe. In summing up the event, Hayden Craddolph, president and CEO of Haydenfilms LLC. stated, "We are very excited about continuing to cultivate new relationships in 2007 with emerging independent filmmakers, with new technology partners, with progressive film festivals, and with sponsors that share our vision." The winning short film, "The Powder Puff Principle" stars Clint Howard as a vindictive high school principal on a witch hunt to find a prankster. The local detective, played by Richard Gilliland, introduces us to all of the usual suspects including the Art Teacher (Kevin Kilner), the Coach (Art LaFleur), and a host of colorful students. Linda Blair ("The Exorcist") co-stars as the School Board President. A native of Chicago, IL, Burgess began his film career as an intern in the marketing and publicity department of Lucasfilm Ltd., and has worked as a producer with RPD Entertainment on interactive game commercials for Tom Clancy's Red Storm Entertainment and Konami. He is the co-founder and Chief Creative Officer of The CinemaFactory, a Los Angeles-based production company. Stated Burgess, "[The Haydenfilms Online Film Festival is the best and most interactive festival experience I've had as a filmmaker. The involvement and interaction of the festival's viewers to choose the winning film is both ground-breaking and more fair to the filmmakers. I am honored that in season two of the Haydenfilms Online Film Festival, the viewers chose my film." Ceremony sponsors Z-CoiL and Miller Lite were in attendance, with Andres Gallegos, President and CEO of Z-CoiL awarding the $10,000 grand prize check to the winning filmmaker. According to Gallegos, "Z-CoiL was proud to sponsor the Haydenfilms 2.0 Festival in New York City. We are excited to be involved with such talented young directors and actors. We hope the Z-CoiL sponsorship and products can help this emerging industry 'spring' into the future." Fred Chapman, Regional Sales Manager for festival sponsor Miller Lite stated, "Miller is very pleased to have been a part of the Haydenfilms Online Film Festival in their second season. Miller brands and film go hand in hand. As our market is a 21 years and older demographic, Haydenfilms is a great fit with our marketing efforts." Finalists for the festival submitted short films - none longer than 35 minutes - that were reviewed by a panel of 10 film industry experts who selected this season's 50 best entries from the festival submissions. Those 50 films were showcased on Haydenfilms.com, where member votes determined the final four and the grand prize winner. The 2.0 festival films will be showcased at Haydenfilms.com...
