Rumors that Flash is finally coming to Apple's iPhone are easy to come by, but don't look to Adobe for confirmation. According to Ryan Stewart, Adobe's Rich Internet Application Evangelist, no one on the inside seems to know about a development project, which means an iPhone Flash player probably isn't in the works -- at least not yet. "I assume someone at the high levels of Adobe knows what the status is but I don't and everyone I talk to doesn't," Stewart said on his blog.

The iPhone is about to get more than a little help from its friends. Any day now, Apple is expected to release a developer's kit that will allow independent programmers to create new applications for the device. While it is common for mainstream PC users to download third-party programs to their computers, it is relatively uncharted territory for average cell phone users to do the same, observed American Technology Research analyst Shaw Wu.

Starting at $229, the new and truly improved Apple TV, rereleased last month, is a device that could change the entertainment world, again. Apple TV's first incarnation, as a wireless entertainment system tied to Apple's iTunes software and a computer running same, drew some interest, but also a lot of yawns. People didn't want their computers doing double duty as entertainment servers. Instead, they wanted to be able to download music, pictures, video and movies to the device and work with them directly. Apple changed the product to do this, and the result is stunning.

DVD Jon, who gained fame as a teenager for hacking the encryption scheme for DVD movies and has since been a thorn in Apple's side, is going corporate. The hacker, whose real name is Jon Lech Johansen, has released two products that simplify the flow of media across devices and social networks. These are the DoubleTwist desktop, which sits on the user's PC, and Twist Me, a Facebook widget. Both are currently available only for Windows Vista and XP; Mac versions will be issued by early summer.

I'm not sure how it happened, but I seem to have become encircled by Apple products. I've always been pretty neutral when it came to hardware elegances. I've worked with many lifelong Mac addicts and have always found their devotion to the Apple brand amusing, given it inevitably leads to a comprehensive technology lock-in. But even when Macs were clearly inferior to PCs -- between 1997 and 2000 when Mac ran on OS 9 -- and more expensive, the Mac faithful never faltered. However, from where I type this today, I can see no less than four Apple logos on devices I purchased with my own money!
