In a move that has shocked the open source software world, Microsoft has formed a surprise alliance with Novell, maker of Suse, one of the leading Linux operating systems. The two firms claim it's designed to make their products work better together -- specifically OpenOffice and Microsoft Office -- so users will be able to share documents more easily. However, Microsoft and anything from open source are normally as compatible as foxes and henhouses.

Addonics Technologies announced Wednesday a hard drive storage solution called "Mini Storage Tower" that can house both 3.5" and 2.5" SATA or IDE hard drives. The tower can support up to four hard drives of each size, is hot swappable, comes in white or black, and has what Addonics calls a "low-noise" cooling fan. According to Addonics, the product can be configured with one of four different back panels.

A strong summer movie season, including the hit "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest" boosted per share earnings at The Walt Disney Co. 89 percent in the fourth quarter, the company reported Thursday. The media conglomerate also reported selling nearly a half million films over the Web through the Apple Computer iTunes store since September and said it was within weeks of announcing new deals with cable operators that would include additional revenue from digital offerings.
