If you thought you couldn't live without your iPod, now you don't have to. There are more than 2,000 accessories available for the portable music player, making the device available at home, in the car and more personally portable than ever. For every US$3 spent on an iPod, at least $1 is spent on an accessory, NPD Group analyst Steve Baker estimated. Accessories for the iPod are a $1 billion annual business, he said.

Bill O'Reilly, well known for his "The O'Reilly Factor" TV and radio shows, says the iPod is "going to have a staggeringly negative effect" on the United States. In a recent "Radio Factor" with Bill O'Reilly, he took on both the iPod and Sony PS3. Of the iPod, O'Reilly said, "I don't own an iPod. I would never wear an iPod. ... If this is your primary focus in life -- the machines ... it's going to have a staggeringly negative effect, all of this, for America."

A ruling by a U.S Federal Judge in Texas states that a government agency from Australia holds the patent rights to some of the technology used in wireless networking standards. The patent in question was filed in 1996 by Australia's Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization. The group claims that its patented technology is found in some IEEE standards, potentially including the 802.11 standard used in wireless networking. At risk are large sums of money the group could collect if the patent ruling stands.
